The Nigerian Youth Consultative Forum on the Summit of the Future which held on June 20 2024 at the United Nations House in Abuja, Nigeria brought together young leaders, innovators, and thinkers from several youth-led organizations who were tasked with exploring youth-driven and multilateral solutions to shape a brighter tomorrow for current and future generations. The World Impact Development Foundation (WIDEF) Founder and Executive Director, Kingsley Godwin participated in the event.
The discussions focused on leveraging the potential of young people to drive multilateral efforts and accelerate progress towards achieving sustainable development. Speaking at the event, Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim, the Honourable Federal Minister of Youth Development said that “It’s time to be bold in our ideas, fearless in our advocacy, and relentless in our pursuit for a better future”. Mr. Mohammed Fall, the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator also inspired the youths to take these consultations to the sub-national level and also drill it down to the community level.
A particularly impactful session focused on “Technology for Personal Safety,” which resonated deeply with WIDEF. At WIDEF, we are staunch advocates for the responsible use of technology. We have been at the forefront of promoting the need for new and emerging digital technologies to be subjected to human and digital rights protection in this digital age. Consequently, WIDEF calls for a robust framework to be developed and enshrined in the pact for the future, safeguarding human and digital rights in our ever-evolving digital world.
Our participation in the Nigerian Youth Consultative Forum on the Summit of the Future highlights our commitment to integrating human and digital rights into the Summit of the Future agenda. This is crucial for fostering an inclusive, secured and just future for all.
The Nigerian Youth Consultative Forum on the Summit of the Future was a pivotal moment, providing a significant opportunity for Nigerian youths to contribute to the pact for the future. We are hopeful that the invaluable contributions of Nigerian youths will be instrumental in shaping the agenda of the Summit of the Future.
