WIDEF participates in the African Internet Governance Forum 2024

The World Impact Development Foundation (WIDEF), with the support of Equality Now, proudly participated in the Africa Internet Governance Forum (African IGF) 2024, held at the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This year’s forum, themed “Building Our Multistakeholder Digital Future for Africa,” provided a dynamic platform to address the challenges and opportunities of Africa’s rapidly evolving digital landscape, focusing on fostering collaboration, inclusivity, and innovative digital governance.

Also, we participated in the Alliance for Universal Digital Rights (AUDRi) event, “From Principles to Action: Shaping the Future for Feminist-Informed Digital Rights,” a precursor to the Official Side Event of the African IGF. This impactful gathering examined the connections between the Global Digital Compact (GDC) and African regional mechanisms, strategizing ways to integrate the GDC into Africa’s digital rights advocacy, particularly for women, girls, and marginalized communities.

Our Founder, Kingsley Godwin, led an interactive session titled “Building Alliances & Accountability: Strengthening Partnerships and Monitoring the Global Digital Compact Implementation across Africa.” This session sparked important discussions on uniting for action and accountability, creating powerful alliances, and setting practical steps to drive and monitor GDC implementation through AUDRi as a space for organizing civil society actions and responses.

Additionally, we participated in key sessions, including the Youth IGF-Digital Governance & Emerging Technologies, which explored pressing issues surrounding digital governance and emerging technologies while emphasizing the importance of empowering young people to lead in shaping Africa’s digital future.

We extend our sincere gratitude to AUDRi and Equality Now for sponsoring our participation and remain committed to fostering partnerships that promote inclusive digital rights advocacy across the continent.
